I started using it this month and I can't tell you how much it has helped with PMS. I use one that has wild yam in it. Any other success stories with progesterone cream?

Well you already know this Tina, but for the benefit of everyone else...I used progesterone cream to treat preterm labor. After 6 weeks on terbutaline which did not work well and made me feel physically HORRIBLE I started on progesterone cream and immediately noticed a tremendous difference. It worked very well to control my contractions, and whereas I ended up back in the hospital twice while on terbutaline, once I started on progesterone cream I had no more problems with the contractions getting out of control. I carried my baby to full term even though I started in labor at 23 weeks!
I also used progesterone cream after my son was born and I started going through a deep post partum depression. I believed it helped as I was able to avoid going on medication which is what my midwife was suggesting to me.

I still haven't "splurged" on a progesterone cream, but need to get some soon. What kind are you using Tina?

I'm using one from Nature's Sunshine. It has wild yam in it which was a plus for me. It's a bit more than the others I've looked at, but I compared ingredients and it's definitely better quality. I think it was around $27 for 2 or 4 oz. I'd have to look at the tube again. I still have sore breasts, but I've read that it could be a condition called fibrocystic breasts. I'm going to do a vitamin and mineral regimen next month and see if that helps.

i started progesterone a couple cycles ago. heres TMI...usually im very very dry down there, makes HF very uncomfortable and painful at times. well since starting it i have not had to worry about being dry at all, i can finally enjoy HF and not worry about being dry. thats one reason i started it, the second reason was my screwy cycles. i used to be the same..start first thing in the morning on the same day of the month. now im starting 4 days earlier than the month before, usually...though its now constant with the cream. i would easily bleed for 10 days and go another 10 days before she came back, or i would bleed 3 days and not see her for 45 days. right now im bleeding 3 days then 3 days nothing, then spot for a day. though i just finished a cycle and it was 3 days then spotting brown on the 4th day..so im hoping my cycles are finally getting better!! i can tell a big difference. no cravings either, that really helped

Dulcie, do you just use it 14 days before your cycle is supposed to start?

I'll jump in here and tell you what I do, Tina. I do use the cream two weeks before I'm supposed to start.
From what I've read, if you take it for three weeks each month (which would be right after your period), your body will quit producing its own progesterone because it *thinks* it already has due to the cream you've used at your time of ovulation. I don't want my body to quit producing my own natural progesterone, so I wait till after I ovulate every month.

yep im only doing it the 2 weeks before. the only problem is..i dont have 2 weeks from day 14..i dont have 28 day cycles right now. so i do start 14 days after my period starts. i only used it 10 days last cycle though due to af coming.

i just thought i would post an update on my cream use... before cream i would bleed 3 days, nothing for 3 days, then on day 4 and 5 i would bleed again. horribly annoying! well this cycle..i bled 4 days, and thats it!! oh and im actually ovulating (not that i can get pg lol because dhs tubes arent working), but i know when i ovulate my cycles are a whole lot more normal! so this is a good thing of course. first time i have ovulated in 6 months!

Katie, I have used different kinds of progesterone cream, but the one I seem to keep going back to is by Emerita - www.emerita.com. No particular reason I guess - it's just one I feel very comfortable with.

Thanks for the suggestion Paula. Budget is still a little too tight for me to spring for progesterone cream right now. But I'm drinking copious amounts of raspberry leaf tea and that seems to help a bit.

I seem to be catching up on old threads again. Can I ask a question about progesterone cream? I thought it wasn't safe to take progesterone without estrogen (at least in hormone replacement pills, i think that is true). So why is it safe to take progesterone cream without estrogen.
I'm just wondering because when I mentioned maybe taking progesterone cream, the doctor said it wouldn't be safe without estrogen. Now, she is definately not naturopathic, and I'm sure she isn't completely informed about progesterone cream. But this got me wondering about it. And if I bring it up to her again, I'd like to have an answer to give her.
Thanks,
Lynne

Are you sure she didn't say that you had to have the progesterone with the estrogen? Not the other way around? Estrogen has been shown to cause uterine cancers...... I don't reccomend it at all unless it is a phytoestrogen cream used vaginally for dryness during menopause or to treat vaginal atrophy. Never the synthetic.
Progesterone does the opposite in most cases of what estrogen does. For instance estrogen reduces vascular tone while progesterone improves it. Estrogen causes fibrocystic breast and progesterone protects against it. The list literally goes on and on.
I highly reccommend a book called What your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause by John R Lee MD . You should reccomend it to your doctor as well because it really has wonderful information.
the fall of progesterone levels at menopause is proportionately much greater than the fall of estrogen levels. Estrogen only falls 40-60% while progesterone falls 12 times that amount. Postmenopausal progesterone levels are sometimes lower than that of males..
Estrogen unoposed by progesterone decreases sex drive.Estrogen dominance causes water retention causing high blood pressure, opposes the thyroid, allows histamine release causing allergies etc. etc.
IMO progesterone is much more necessary than estrogen to menopausal women.
