I read the book. I love it. However I can't do all that Sally said in the book. I did increase my saturated fats intake though. I am not buying the Coconut Oil she says to buy but I am getting them in the organic section at Kroger. I do not fermengate because I do not have the time for it. Mainly increase animal fats in our diet. We have been using Butter and Olive oils and just now added the Coconut oils.
So if you are doing somewhat of a NT diet what are you doing?

I ferment my beans all at one time and cook them in huge batches and freeze them. That saves me some prep time so that I can cook healthy and work too.
I make kombucha tea which does not take any time at all.
I make beet kvass which has helped me immensely and it is not time consuming or expensive .
I ferment veggies, but I have a food processor . If you have one, it does not take time at all. Also, if you ferment enough at once to last you a while, it only needs to be done once a month or so.
You can most likely do a lot more than you think. You just have to do one thing at a time.

I have only just begun reading the book. I am also about halfway through the Maker's Diet, which I find to be similar to NT.
I have started doing only a very few things.
Right now I have the NT meatloaf cooking in my crockpot. It smells yummy - I hope it turns out good!
I just bought some yogurt so I can make some whey (or at least try to!). Then I'm going to make some gingered carrots and ginger ale. I also want to make the orange drink in NT.
I'm going to take it slow, and there are many things that I will probably never be able to implement in my home, due to my DH's tastes. ;-) But that's okay.
Oh yeah - I've also started DD and I on kefir. For now we're drinking store-bought, but hopefully I'll be making my own before long. We've also been eating more beans, but I've yet to ferment them or anything.
I would love to hear what others of you are doing! :-)

I want to make that meatloaf! Let me know how it turns out..... We ferment our beans like I stated above. I also make sauerkraut regularly as well as kombucha and beet kvass. We eat grass fed meats and raw milk. I just purchased my first lard, but haven't used much of it yet.I made liver last night and ended up throwing it away. We did not like it at all and will not be trying it again. We will do without the organ meats period.

Tina - The NT meatloaf turned out pretty good! My MIL said she LOVED it, and went on and on about it. ;D DH, who is super picky, said it was pretty good. I liked it "okay" but I'm not much of a meatloaf fan to begin with. It's definitely worth making. The only thing I did differently was to leave out the chile flakes and half of the pepper, as DH doesn't like anything that is spicy at all. Oh yeah, I left out the optional fish sauce, also. I cooked it in the crockpot on low about 7 or 8 hours, with some potatoes and carrots in it as well (learned this from the Woodshed! ;D), and the veggies were so good cooked in the meat drippings like that. ;D Several ladies on the WS raved about the NT meatloaf - that's why I decided to try it. I think my next project will be to ferment some beans and cook them. I also want to try kombucha eventually. We definitely won't be following "everything" in NT, as my DH would not like some of it. And also NT seems to have a fair amount of shellfish, and I've been staying away from that since reading the Maker's Diet. Also, I doubt that we will do organ meats, and I know we won't be doing raw meat. Most of the other stuff sounds good though, and I'm excited to work my way through it. I have been making a ton of homemade bread lately, adn I'm hoping to eventually buy a wheat mill to grind my own wheat.

Okay, Can you believe that I still have not tried this? I'm going to get the necessary ingredients together and go for it this next week. I think it has raw cream in it. Maybe someone will lend me some because I didn't order it with my co-op order.

OH yeah, I forgot about the cream. I just used milk instead, since that's what I had. Cream probably would have tasted a little richer, but the milk was fine. Let me know when you try it. I'm curious to find out if you like it.

I've made the meatloaf several times. I'm still on a waiting list for raw milk, they are getting some new cows and and will open up the cow share program soon. In the meantime, the best I can find is one store here sells "pasturized" cream (not ultra past.) so I am using that. At one point when I had some raw milk in my fridge (from a friend) I just let the cream rise to the top, and skimmed it off, put it in a glass mason jar and used that until it was gone. I also do the gingered carrots (these make a WONDERFUL condiment with the meatloaf btw!) and the cortido regularly. We especially like the cortido as a condiment with homeade mexican food. A few friends and I go in on a 50lb container of coconut oil, and it comes out to $1 a pound that way. Split 5 ways, it's $10 each and yields 5 1/2 quarts a piece! We get it from a co-op here in Michigan, we only have to drive an hour to get there, but we rotate who goes down to get the order. We will be skipping the organ meats too!!! Shauna

that's an awesome price on coconut oil! My family loved the meatloaf. I'll be making it again tomorrow.
