Hi, Do you have any suggestions on natural ways to prevent or get rid of migranes. He takes imatrex for the pain and it works but I just think there must be something we can do to prevent them or get rid of them without having to use the imatrex.

do you know much about MSG? That would be the first thing that I would eliminate from the diet. It's a big culprit in migraines.

On the topic of msg...
After this past Sunday, I'm beginning to think that maybe that is one of the reasons I've suffered with migraines (or at least REALLY bad headaches) for several years.
I have recently taken great strides to change my family's intake of msg. I've eliminated ALL canned soups, including the cream ones used for cooking, as well as packaged taco mixes, gravies, salad dressings, etc. Also bottled salad dressings.
In January, I had some terrible headaches. I kept a record and had about 7 really bad headaches that lasted a couple of days each. Ruined most of that month for me! I have wondered if maybe my body was going through some type of *cleansing* process since I'm trying to feed my family better and maybe that's why I was suffering so much during that month.
Well, in February, I had ONE headache and it wasn't even a very bad one.
So far in March, I've had TWO. One earlier in the month that wasn't very bad at all...and then one on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.
Guess what I ate for lunch on Sunday? Golden China! Their food is so wonderful and hard to pass up, but friends invited us out for lunch after church and that's where we went. I know for a fact they put msg in their food because the wife friend we ate with asked about it and they confirmed that they use it.
About two hours after we got home, I started getting the headache that lasted through till early Monday afternoon.
I can't say with all assurance that it was due to msg, but I am surely going to be keeping a good eye on my headaches from now on and see if there is a correlation!

Thanks so much for your insights. I never thought about msg and all the foods that probably contain it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for alternative replacements for the foods that contain it. Like the cream soups, salad dressings, etc. ?

Yes, there are some cream soup recipes on this board under the recipe section. Frontier foods sells a powdered chicken a beef broth that are free of msg. Watch your chips and crackers because most of them are laden with it.
I think we are about free of MSG in our home, so when you think of things that you are trying to replace, post them here and I'll see if I can help.
