I've heard of them, but we don't really do supplements .
I'm coming back to add some more to this. I was very rushed when I answered and want to give more of a reason. Shaklee along with a lot of other MLMS are very expensive and I *feel* that you can get a better quality for your dollar by purchasing whole food supplements.
For instance, I tend to be anemic. I take a dessicated liver capsule. It's actually dried liver from a buffalo. My body uses it much better when it's in natural form vs. chemical form. Glandulars have also been shown to prevent and cure cancer by actually supporting the organ. I like that much better than adding more chemicals to my diet.
Green capsules and drinks are wonderful because they are actual dried broccoli, beets etc. So , I always try to choose food over chemical.
Also, be sure to check for soy in those supplements. If they have soy in them, avoid it like the plague.

Tina,
It made no sense to me........my gf says the "grow the food, dry it out, smash it into a pill". It's all organic.
I personally love to eat.....and why not just eat it? Why tinker with it and turn it into something 'different'?
What's wrong with soy? Again, I personally have a problem eating something that you can make hand lotion, candles and fuel out of!! My gf *swears* soy has saved her life......she has thyroid issues.
Is she hurting herself? laura

Hi Laura, A lot of companies are now saying that they grow the food and then dry it out. I have not looked at Shaklee ingredients in a long time, but I don't remember them being one of those companies. I agree with you about eating the foods. I usually have the elderly or someone in a healing crisis take supplements. Not a person that is capable of juicing or eating nice big leafy green salads and good meats.
Soy is a proven goiterogen. It can actually burn the thyroid out. It does not help women with menopause unless they have taken it since before puberty. There is a lot of research out there that destroys the soy theories that were sold to us so long ago to get us to purchase a cheap food.
There is a book called The Whole Soy Story that I would highly encourage your friend to read. It is very enlightening about why soy even came to the US in the first place. I hope that your friend will read it. I am learning that iodine would be a much better choice than soy for thyroid issues.

This is the frustrating part.
One book says "it's a miracle" and then there is another book out there that says "it's the devil" and both books put up excellent arguments. Both books give 'facts'. Then you stand there wondering what to believe!!!
Is soy a human hybrid? Meaning, did man 'create' this bean in a lab? That's my starting point. WHO created it?
Tina you are an awesome help! Thanks Laura

That's a good question. Let me do some reading today. (It's my day off and I might have time! ) and I will post what I find here. My book may be at work....If not today, then tomorrow.

Also, another note. Check the dates that the books were written. I am not finding any up to date information calling soy a miracle. Dr Mercola's site is also a good one to peruse.

I don't mean to butt in here since I pretty much only "lurk" here occasionally but this thread peaked my interest....
We have a lady at our church who insists (much like laura's gf) that soy has almost healed her of her issues. My mom has now joined the "pro-soy" bandwagon and I am desperately hoping to steer her away from it. I read a link that someone emailed to me that soy was developed to cheaply feed the masses or something like that.
Anyways, I'm gonna read the link you posted now, tina!!

Last year at the State Fair, Purdue University had a booth about soy.
They had hand lotions made of soy. They had soap make with soy. They had candles made of soy. They had fuel made of soy. They had coffee made of soy. And then they had 'roasted soy' for people to eat.
Ok. That's a little scary for me. 98% of the products that are made from soy are non-edibles. Reverse that and use a tomato. I would hazard to guess 98% of what you could make with a tomato, would be edible.
Is soy a genetically engineered food? Meaning did someone cross breed a couple of seeds in a lab and wala we have soy? That's a big red flag for me.......something man has created in a lab.

Just quickly...no soy has been around for a long time...but originally they considered it unfit for food...some time early on they figured out how to ferment it a la naturally fermented soy sauce, tamari, miso etc... But for centuries that was the only way that it was eaten...and fermenting it predigests many of the harmful stuff...it's only been in recent years that the "industry" has turned it into manna from heaven. Here's an article from an author that I like www.westonaprice.org/soy/darkside.html and then here is the menu page on that same site about soy www.westonaprice.org/soy/index.htmlNowadays soy is one of the most genetically modified...it even beats corn...BLECH!! I don't eat it if I can help it.

I agree. Soy is GMO. I see no nutritional value to it . I will post more later because of course, I forgot my book at work again. I'm sorry guys. Working full time makes me a bit forgetful!
