I have not yet made kefir from grains yet, but i just bought some Helios Kefir with FOS, organic certified, strawberry flavor (yes, i know, it has added flavoring and sugar, but baby steps ) Now, my kids LOVE that and i want to know if that is just as healthy with all the "good stuff" that the kefir made from grains at home would be. I would probably only use it in smoothies or such, but as of right now, my girls will drink the strawberry kefir just how it is in a glass of milk. I am hoping this will help my dd with some skin rashes she gets and also with her ulcer and overall gut problems she has, along with my Crohn's. TIA PS: If i make kefir myself, it will be regular milk from the store, not raw, so keep that in mind if that makes a diff

If you would be making it with homogenized milk, then yes it's just as healthy. You may want to buy a bottle of plain next time you buy the strawberry and when the strawberry gets about 1/3 of the way down, fill it back up with plain to get them used to less sugar. This is how I switched my kids to maple syrup.

one thing my dd did complain about with the store bought stuff was that it had a yucky powdery aftertaste, which i am assuming that the homemade will not have.
