I don't know how much litmus paper you have ,but you may be better doing a saliva test with your dh. Do you have any lemons?

No lemons in the house.
Are there particular instructions for saliva testing?

Don't eat for two hours or more. Take one test before even touching the lemon. Some people will have a soar in pH just handling a lemon!
Squeeze a tsp of juice into a spoon or glass of water and drink it (go ahead and grimace). Wait two minutes and then test your saliva again.
The highly acid lemon juice creates a high stress environment for your body. The normal alkalinity of your mouth will become intensely acid, but if your body is reacting properly, it will neutralize the acid.
So , you may get a high reading two minutes later, but it should come right back to alkaline within the next few minutes .
