Could you please advise on face products? I've been trying many department store brands such as Clinique, Lancome, sheshido, but do I really need to spend this money on these products?
Do you use regular soap on your face? I have sensative skin, I'm milk white, so I can't just use anything. I'm getting tired of all the expense of these products. I also need a good moisturizer.....
Thanks in advance.

For me, the place I would start is researching some of the ingredients listed on different products. Many people are sensitive to synthetic ingredients and preservatives. There is a lot of expense sunk in to packaging and advertising for these products. I'm always a bit skeptical of their claims, especially when I consider the ingredients. I've converted to a more natural approach to skin care and personally haven't used department store type products for several years. You may be able to get by using a simple soap for cleansing and an oil for a moisturizer. Jojoba oil's chemical makeup is very similar to skin's sebum. Virgin coconut oil is another that works well, as does shea butter. A little bit of any one of these goes a long way. I also think that moisturizing from the inside out should be our first plan of attack. Make sure that you are getting plenty of water into your system. Katie

Hi, ...Just wanted to say that my mom has been making her own bar soap that is organic, natural and has things like herbs and honey in it. I use it on my face and it is remarkable. It leaves my face soft and I know that the things in the soap are not bad for my body like much of the store bought stuff. Maybe you could look into learning to make your own soaps..or find a source of buying some natural herbal/honey soaps.

I, too use the soap that Kirstin's mom makes and I am very impressed with it. It makes my skin so soft and it's real good at getting all the make up off. It doesn't dry my skin out either. She uses all natural ingredients that wouldn't harm the inside of your body. Since the skin absorbs all the chemicals, perfumes, dyes and weirdness found in most store bought soaps and lotions this is a good reason to make your own. I used to have trouble with acne till I started smearing my face with coconut oil. I buy it in a plain white ugly gallon container. It doesn't look as pretty sitting on my bathroom vanity as the stuff I could buy at Bath and Bodyworks at the mall, but my skin looks better for it!

I too have run the gamut on name brand facial soaps. I have always had problem skin (sensitive & prone to acne on the jawline). I had been using Mary kay's purifying bar.. but I think that my body's make up is changing because now it breaks me out something awful! I just started using Kiss My Face olive oil soap that I bought at the health food store. It does not smell all that great.. but my skin is sooo much smoother and the dryness has gone away. Too soon to say about the acne.. I will let you know. I am mid-break out.. but then again I am also mid-pms!

JCsMomma - did the Kiss My Face soap help with acne? It may take a month or two, but a natural soap should make a h u g e difference for you.

actually yes! it is amazing! I can't believe the difference in my skin.. it isn't as dry either and alot of the redness has cleared also... it is definitely worth the $2.50! Now I keep thinking of all the $$ I spent on Mary Kay and Clinique.. etc etc etc live and learn!

You could probably find it at a local health food store Paula. It's a pretty popular brand. I know they carry it way up here!
Has he tried any of the soap I sent you? It might help, but he might need to use it consistently for a few weeks before seeing results.

Thanks for the info on where to buy the Kiss My Face products. Katie, it never even occurred to me to wash my FACE with your soaps! I've always just used Olay products for myself and an acne wash for ds. I'll have him start washing his face with your soaps and see what happens!

Oh goodness, yes, you may certainly use my soap on faces. I need to figure out how to convey that to people. You're not the first one to say it Paula. I think people have been conditioned over the years not to use soap on their faces, primarily because the standard manufactured stuff is just too harsh. I usually just lather up a bar in my hands, wash my face using my hands and rinse it off with one of my favorite washcloths. (I'm into organic cotton or hemp....naturally! )

Pastor Rebecca (our women's pastor for those that don't know her) only uses Katie's soap on her face and she loves it.
