My husband and kids love french fries I was wondering if anyone makes theirs from scratch using olive oil or coconut oil and bakes them in the oven. I was thinking of trying this and was looking for any input. His,, Chris

Yes! Cut the potatoes into fries and lightly coat with olive oil and sea salt, or even pepper, cayene, whatever. Bake on a high heat in oven or broil. The hotter the crispier. We love these. We've tried these with sweet potatoes too which we liked.

Hi Chris,
We don't have fries often, but we make our own. Everybody loves them!
I use about 4 medium potatoes, cut like fries. I toss them in a ziploc with a little less than 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Mush it all around to semi-coat the potatoes.
I bake them for about 1/2 hour at 350. Turn them about halfway through the baking. They cook a little faster if you cut them thin. We tend to like ours more like steak fries.
Blessings, Katie

Hey Tina! This board is trying to make me think I'm bonkers. I do know the word for the measure that is equal to 3 teasthingys. I try to type it in and it comes up with "table-thingy" ? ;D ;D Edited: it doesn't like the word "spoon". You know, the third component of a place setting...fork, knife and _____.

Katie, That's so funny! I was wondering why people were calling a tablespoon of something a tablesthingy! I was wondering if I was missing some sort of new fangled way of referring to it! LOL I do believe that will not give us problems any more. too funny.....

Very funny! ;D
At first I thought I had typed the word tablespoon incorrectly and wondered how in the world I came up with tablesthingy.

That's weird. How about just using a T = tablespoon and t-teaspoon.
BTW- I do the same with my fries, but I throw some cracked pepper, Frontier all seasons salt and a couple T of flour in the bag. It makes a nice coating.

This answer is coming from "She Who Doesn't Have Any Fun Kitchen Tools" .....I've used a plain old french fry cutter. Do you know what I mean? It's kind of a grid of wires attached to an oval shaped metal ring thing. It is kind of a pain, especially with really fresh potatoes that are on the hard side. If I'm in a hurry, I just use my trust knife and slice them into something resembling fries. Larger pieces = steak fries! ;D

Another oven fries question - what kind of pan do you use to make them crispy? I've used glass recently, and the fries were NOT crispy at all except for a few around the edges. I coat the potatoes with oil and salt and then put them in the oven.
What makes them crispy??

I use my stone from Pampered Chef to make mine. I've never used glass, but I don't know why they wouldn't crisp on glass
