This year, I am trying my hand at seeds. I have never started my garden with seeds........so I am hoping to gather all of the advice I can get!! ;D
Can you please share with me what has worked, and what has not work in your experience with seeds?
Thank you, Laura

Hi Laura, I started a garden from seed a few years ago and it did very well. I bought the little green house trays that had little mini pots in them and started my seed there covered. I was able to grow lots of collard greens, zucchini, tomatos etc starting them by seed this way. The green house kept enough moisture in the little pots to give them the perfect environment to grow.

We are doing this as well this year. Mostly it started out as science projects for Kenton but then I realized that it would be good for our garden too. Our main problem is space for the little green houses but we're managing!! We have 48 plants started so far. We are growing cantaloupe, sweet corn, beans, beets, peppers, tomatoes and pumpkins.

This is the second year of planting from seed for me. Last year we planted to late, but the cucumbers and radishes did great. This year we started early. I have found that you need to till the ground first so the roots can grow. Also my neighbor dug up his garden to get rid of the sand and put in soil. He has been here 15 years. I buried fish in my yard last year like the Indians did when they planted corn. I hear fish emulsion is the best fertilizer. It really smells. But I am curious to know about ocean water and what does best in Florida (i.e. citrus, berries, etc.) I planted corn, squash, zuchinni tomatoes, peas, basil, thyme, dill, and more. The cucumbers are popping up from last year (I buried the bad fruit). We used the green house trays also but just watch for mildew on the roots or top. We keep the fans on, water regularly and when they sprout you need to get them in the ground. Also any type of squash, melon, or cucumber does not like to be transplanted more than once. You also should plant radishes or another small plant by them to keep pest away. Certain flowers detur bugs. Also make sure they have enough room to grow like on a trellis or screen which they like, it is easier for them to grab on. I hope it works for you all and let me know if you have any tips.
