If you need to supplement your baby for some reason, this is a great substitute for breast milk
1/3 goats milk 1/3 fresh juiced carrot juice 1/3 distilled water
By the time the baby is 6months, it should be able to tolerate 1/2 goats milk and 1/2 carrot juice if you slowly work it up to that.

Hey Tina. I've never heard of this one. Where did you find it? What about folic acid?

I found it in Dr Fells Know it All Guide to Health and Wellness. I'm not sure on the folic acid. I'll have to look into that one more now that you mentioned it. I just talked to a ND about this particular mixture and she said she just did straight goats milk and supplemented with a liquid vitamin. I'm not sure if the liquid vitamin had folic acid in it or not.

Well, this surely is interesting to me! I will be starting to supplement dd next week while I'm working and then breastfeeding while we're at home. I definently feel more comfortable giving her this healthy alternative then a powdered mixture. I'll have to do some digging this week and see what I come up with.

The reason I asked is because I've read cautions on giving goat milk as a subsititue for breastmilk because it is deficient in folic acid. I have seen a homemade goat milk formula recipe with nutritional yeast added to compensate.

I don't see a problem with throwing some nutritional yeast in to give it a good balance. Hey, we can make up our own formula recipe. We ARE the moms after all. ;D
