Hi there, so I made a pseudo-master tonic with stuff that I had in the house. It's just garlic, ginger and ACV.
I gave us all (girls and me) about 1 teaspoon of it the other day on an empty stomach and HHHOOOOOWEEE, it burned going down and made me think I might throw it up for about 2 minutes...we chased it with ice water, but the way they reacted I'm thinking they felt the same way.
After that couple of minutes everything was fine...but I hesitate to make the REAL master tonic if just garlic and ginger hurt that much.
So, did I do it wrong or is that what I should expect? I don't mind if that's how it's supposed to feel but yikes it's not what I expected. Or should we have eaten first?

You have to let it "work" on the counter for two weeks flipping it as you walk by. Yes, it does burn when it goes down and makes you feel a bit yucky for a minute or so. Once you get used to it, it doesn't make you feel bad. I order the little bottles with droppers from Frontier and fill the dropper up, place it all the way in the back of the mouth and squirt it in and swallow. It helps to not taste it as much.
It has to be better than what antibiotics do to us.

Also, go light on the hot peppers. They will get you every time! ;D
Also, a teaspoon is more than you will get in a dropper!eww

Thanks...I was using one of those teaspoon droppers the first time and when it's finished will strain it into a small brown bottle with the smaller dropper...but Beck has the snots and so I thought I'd give it a try even though it's not done yet.
Anyway, I went on line earlier and read that sometimes if you eat garlic with cheese or some other protein it helps...so this afternoon I gave her 1/2 tsp, a drink of ice water and a piece of cheese...she was fine...Although I really shouldn't have given her cheese as that doesn't help with mucus...next time I'll try some avocado or egg or something like that .
Thanks for the info.

I was wondering about the garlic too. I took some the other day. It burnt my tongue as soon as I put it in my mouth. Then my stomach hurt for a couple hours afterward. I felt better once I ate lunch. So, maybe I need to eat something with it.

We eat a meal before hand and then smoothies right after as a reward. And to wash it down. Still my kids said they felt it in their stomaches. But you know what, Nyquil has the same effect. I can feel that stuff sitting in stomach as well.

My mom was here the other day and we tried my Master Tonic for the first time. I have to admit that I liked it! It tasted like a spicy salad dressing or marinade. My dh and I will have no problem taking it and I'm sure a couple of our kids will be ok too. Two in particular will put up a fuss, but we'll work on that.

Hello all - I'm new here, so I don't know what the 'master tonic' is, but I have been working with herbs and natural remedies for a number of years and would like to offer some thoughts on taking garlic. First, it is a wonderful alternative for antibiotics. In fact, whenever any of my family feels our immune system is low (ie-getting sick), we immediately start taking garlic (along with Vit. C - in the form of a product called Emergen-C, (I get it from the Vitamin Shoppe), Zinc, and Echinacea) and usually we don't get sick!! Of course, we cut out all sugar for awhile too. Okay - how we take garlic is...crush it up and put it in some milk (or soymilk) and swallow. For children, put it into Yogurt (plain, unsweetened), let it sit for awhile, then feed them a tsp. or so (depending on age), 3x a day. Oh, and having something in your stomach helps too. PLEASE don't take raw garlic straight - you can actually get a real chemical burn in your mouth. If you do decide to just chomp a clove of garlic, then please wash it down with some milk! Another natural antibiotic available is grapefruit seed extract - this one's hard to take and MAKE SURE you have something in your stomach first or you may get a bad stomach ache! Hope this helps. Peace
