At church Sunday, 8 yo dd's fingers got caught in the inside part of the heavy bathroom door. She had to have someone open it for her to get them out. Not to gross anyone out or anything, but her fingernail was ripped from the bottom to about the middle of her finger on one finger. The other one was smashed, too, but the fingernail seems to be intact for now. Dh had to carry her to the car because she had thrown up in the church, got all clammy and then practically fainted. She was a limp ragdoll being carried to the car. What a nightmare for this mom. I was scared! My God-sent dh did the honors of trimming off the nail while I was at WalMart buying Motrin for her.
Today she has a bit of a fever and a sore throat. Could it be related? I was an idiot and took her to the petting zoo that afternoon. She felt better after a couple of hours and it was the last day they were going to be in town. It didn't occur to me till we were there that a child with an open wound feeding zoo animals was just plain stupidity. She had a bandaid on it and fed them with her other hand once it occurred to me, but I'm just praying that she's not carrying some animal disease now thanks to me.
Anyway, to get to my question, a friend of mine gave me some comfrey today to boil and soak her fingers in. I don't know anything about it. Is it good for that sort of thing? Any other recommendations?
My nurse friend told me that it would probably be better to NOT take her to the doctor because they'd want to take off the nail and it would be very traumatic for her. But that was before the stupid trip to the petting zoo and the fever and sore throat.
What would be your suggestions?
