My 17 yo ds has had an earache off-and-on for about a week now. He wants to go to the doctor and I don't want to take him! I read some online remedies and wanted to ask you all what you do in cases like this. I don't have any idea what the problem is. He did swim quite a bit last week at my sister's house but does not swim a lot here at home. I read about colloidal silver, but I have a feeling it's pretty expensive. I also read about garlic and olive oil, so that's what he's got in his ear right now. We're waiting to see how it works. He's really miserable, wanting to see a doc, and I was hoping some of you could give me some good home remedies to try that won't break the bank. Thanks so much!

I have no remedies to offer, but I felt compelled to reply to say that I am praying for your son. I often had earaches as a child and I know how uncomfortable they can be.

One thing that we do is a mixture of rubbing alcohol and vinegar. Half and half in a baby bottle and put a few drops in each ear after swimming. It really seems to help. The alcohol dries up the water and the vinegar restores the balance in the ear. Usually though it is when there is no infection.

I use garlic oil here too. Colloidal Silver is about $20

Thank you all. His ear is better today and I so much appreciate your prayers for him. I think I'll stick with the garlic oil rather than colloidal silver. The alcohol and vinegar would have probably been good for my OTHER ds last week when he couldn't hear due to swimming. You live and learn! Thanks again!

Another thing that you can do along with garlic oil in the ear (we do this too) is have him eat raw garlic...it's anti-this and that...anti-biotic, anti-microbial etc etc. With my kids I also fill 'em up to the TOP with vitamin C basically until they have loose stools...my 6 yo is having some sort of tummy bug and she is currently at 9000 mg and still not to loose stools so she's definately fighting something.
And last but not least...the chiropractor...we've done this twice now with ear infections and it is ASTOUNDING how fast they respond.
