I was wondering if there is something natural or non-toxic that can help with pest control. I am new to all of this and my boys are very sensitive. Thanks!

By pest control do you mean against mosquitoes, etc? Lavender essential oil is probably the mildest essential oil and has been effective in keeping away mosquitoes for some people. Although some people use it "neat" (undiluted), I would recommend blending it with a carrier oil to use on children. Other essential oils thought to repel insects include citronella, cedarwood, lemongrass, catnip, litsea cubeba and lemon eucalyptus. Also if they are getting foods that contain plenty of B vitamins that is supposed to work as well. Good luck!

Thank you for your help. I was actually looking for something for around the house. We have been having a problem with ants and don't want to spray anything toxic.

black pepper. put it where they are coming in, making sure there is no way they cant get around it. this worked for me for about 7 yrs..until last yr it no longer worked and i had to get tough. i now use terro with borax in it...it attracts them like crazy, then next thing you know they are gone. dont kill them while they are eating it lol...they have to take it to their nest, they die after that, then the whole nest has it there and htey die.

its actually a chemical. but its thick and you put it on like cardboard and set it in corners and such..mine are hidden or up where the children cant get to it. last yr we had to have the exterimantor (sp) come out, and i hated that..our house stank for days! i can just imagine the chemicals in that! ugh. but the ants were about to carry my house off! thankfully this yr i have gotten rid of them. i have seen one today..but thats it since last week. last week i had about 50 of them eating the terro..then none

roaches...baking soda and powdered sugar mixed in equal parts, set out for them
Build a cockroach trap. Smear a thin layer of Vaseline around the inside lip of a pint jar to a width of about 2 inches. Place the jar upright, with bait inside, in an area frequented by cockroaches. Apple and potato make excellent bait for American, smoky-brown, and brown-banded roaches, while German roaches prefer banana peel. Change the bait often because fresh food is more appealing to roaches. Another trap can be made by dusting the inside of a jar lightly with talcum powder and using the same bait food. Roaches entering the jar are unable to climb back out over the petroleum jelly or talcum powder barrier. Destroy the trapped roaches by dropping them into a pail of hot, soapy water.
also for ants..they supposedly dont like cinnamon. now be careful though..if they are the large ants they could be carpenter ants..which could be a sign of more trouble to come to your wood.

Anyone have a recipe for a spray for flying bugs? We get some around one of our entry doors, and end up using the horrid chemical stuff to keep them from entering the house when we go in. Of course, then we end up breathing it. Help!
