Hi all! I am glad to have heard about this board. I have had chronic stomach problems for about 6 years now and the last 3 months have been the worst. My new doctor is really good and is working on figuring out what my problem is. He thinks it might be Non-Ulcer Dispepsia. So I am looking for healthy recipes and methods of cooking. I have a very limited diet( next to no dairy, NO tomato products, low-no fat, very little spices and no pork or beef) right now and I am losing weight because of it. So I am very happy to be a part of this board! I am 20 years old, live at home with my parents and siblings and I am homeschool graduate and I now am currently taking pre-nursing classes right now. I am hoping to get my masters degree and and get my midwife and/or nurse practitioner certificate. I am very interested in natural child birth and natural healthcare. So I am still seeking the Lord's will for my life and seeing where He leads me. Thank you to Tina for setting up this board!! In Christ, Jennie

Hi Jenni, I'm glad you're here. One of the things that would help you with keeping the stomach acid down is working on how you order the foods you eat. For istance fruit and veggies digest very fast. Fruits leave the stomach within 15 minutes.Steak on the other hand can take 8 hours.
The food also sits in your stomach in the order that you eat it, so you would not want to eat a steak and then fruit. The fruit will sit on top of the steak for 8 hours and ferment giving you a "heartburn" condition, so just watch how your ordering your foods and you should do much better.
Also, apple cider vinegar is one of my favorite healing tools. It has been shown to heal ulcers and stomach problems. I can give you more info on that if you like.
Another great one to tame stomach acid is flax seed. You just grind it up and put it on your salads, yogurt etc.
Let me know if I can help any other way. Have a great time in school!
Tina

Jennie, I'm new here, too! I am almost 28. I am also a homeschool graduate! I got married when I was 25 and now have two children, so far! We have had two midwife-assisted homebirths and hope to have all our future children at home, too! I hope to become a midwife or a doula someday myself! I look forward to getting to know you!

Thank you for the welcomes! Thank you for sharing that information Tina. That is very interesting about how fast different foods digest and in what order. I tried eating my fruit first tonight before my meat. I do have heartburn but I am on nexium for that and it seems to help but I can put up with the heartburn. It is the horrible stomach pain that gets me. It is worse at night and I found out it is because I tend to be more tense at night and it makes my stomach pain almost unbearable. I am not sure how to relax more or how to get my stomach to calm down. The Doc thinks maybe muscle relaxers might be the best option but I do not go back to the Doc until May so until then I am supposed to be seeing how or if the nexium affects the heartburn and the pain or only the heartburn. So far the nexium has had NO affect on the pain whatsoever. I have had this stomach pain for almost 6 years straight and it has become really really intense within the last 3-4 months. During the last 6 years I have been to 4 doctors and specialists and have had every stomach test in the book but all the doctors ever told me was that I had GERD or IBS. I may have both of them but I can live with and don't care if I have them I want to know what the stomach pain is from! But I know God has a reason for all this and I just try to focus on getting through one day at a time by His grace. Again I am so glad you started this board! Thank you!

Jenni, Are you eating lots of processed foods? Have you tried chammomile tea in the evenings to help you relax? I drink a blend of chammomile, rooibos , and mint together. That would be very easy on your stomach.
I also wanted to point out that stress is the biggest producer of acid in your body, so if you are not relaxing in the evening and your pain is worse at that time, I am seeing and indicator that your body is producing more acid at that time.
Do you get relaxation time in the evenings? It may be a good time to take a nice hot bath and read a book. Something to relax you a bit.

Thank you for helping me on this Tina! ((Hugs)) Yes I do eat quite a bit of processed foods because they are quick, easy to fix low fat or fat free foods. Would processed foods cause my stomach to hurt worse? It is harder to cook a healthy meal when I do not have any good quick/easy (and even ones that take longer) low fat or fat free recipes. I need to start looking in our natural/organic food co-ops catalog for foods that would be better for me. We have belonged to a food co-op since I was a baby so we are quite familiar with the natural organics foods but since I am very busy with school and work I tend to eat quicker unhealthy foods. Is there any vitamins or herbs that I could take daily that would help my stomach condition(Non-Ulcer Dyspepsia)? Is there certian kinds of food that would be helpful to eat and would help heal ? Would chamomille make me feel sicker or would it be safe to drink even with my stomach how it is? I use to drink quite of bit of it but ever since I had a terrible bout of stomach flu this winter(it was bad!) I have a fear if throwing up again like I did with the flu.(I know, dumb reason ) I think that is what makes me tense at night. I hope you do not mind me asking you all these questions. I am trying to find some answers to a stomach problem that seems to have no easy fix so it tends to be a little frusterating for me. Thank you so much for the advice and help! I so very much appreciate it!

I like helping. It's actually allowing me to practice a little of what I'm learning in school. Processed foods are very acidic and you don't want more acid, you want less. I'm not sure on herbs that might help you.... Where are the herb ladies? Come teach us some things! I am curious to see what your pH is . I would be willing to be that you are very acidic. I think if we could get the acid down in your body , your stomach would feel better. Can you give me a food diary of what you eat on a normal day. Just take one day and write everything down including snacks. I firmly believe that our bodies don't make mistakes. It must react to everything you put in it. Something that is going in it is giving you this reaction.

I am going to test my ph balance by friday I hope. I am very curious to see how acidic I am. Yes I can record what I eat on one day. My diet does not very much so what I eat in one day is what I eat most other days as well. I will pm you my diary.

hi jennie!.. herbs that help with stomach pain or panax ginseng, dandelion root, licorice root, slippery elm (with marshmallow root), chamomile, flax seed and oatstraw. ive dealt with upset stomach for 2 yrs, but now have found out that its from my diabetes. i notice when my sugars are more balanced, and when i eat every 2-3 hrs, then my stomach doesnt hurt. but that may not apply to you. of course white sugars and flours are an instant killer.
