Hi Everyone,
I wanted to address some things regarding our produce co-op. It continues to grow and I'm being asked some great questions. I thought I'd condense some of those in an email so everyone better understands how the co-op works.
I ask for everyone to include their phone numbers with their orders. Please, please do this so I do not have to email you and ask you for it. The reason we want your phone number is that, in the event, we need to call you at the last minute, it is readily available. Sometimes, the truck runs early, late, gets a flat, you forgot it was produce day, etc....... This just adds to what we hope will be a smooth delivery day. Thanks for your understanding.
The orders are on a first come, first served basis. Some of you are asking why you order things and end up not receiving them. We must order by the case (and in some instances, we can order half cases). Unless we can fill a case, a half case, a case and a half, two cases, etc....., we cannot order. For example, if 16 people order spinach and no others order, I have to drop the LAST four people that ordered and can only fill half a case (a case of spinach is 24) of 12. That means that the first 12 people who ordered spinach will get it. Usually, the updates help with this but since most people have no idea where they fall in the "order line-up," it may not answer your question of whether or not your order for a particular item was filled.
When sending your order to me, you may hit reply... deleting everything except the items you do want. Include the quantity for each.
The produce list comes out every other Tuesday evening (Tuesday after produce delivery). If I cannot post it that evening, I'll send an email to the group letting everyone know when it will be posted. The best way to be sure you are able to get the items you want or need, is to get your order to me as early as possible. I enter the produce orders in the order I receive them.
About delivery:
The morning the produce is delivered, the delivery coordinator puts a call out to the driver. He will call her back if he does not answer her phone and he will give her an estimated time of arrival. Most of the time, the coordinator starts calling him at 9:30 am but may not get an answer immediately. Once she does, she makes her best estimate and posts to the group giving two times: time for helpers to arrive (and we do appreciate all of you) and pick up times. Occasionally, things happen and the time frame does not work out as smoothly as we like. Thank you for your cooperation when that does happen.
Once the truck arrives, the helpers begin weighing and sorting items. We are trying to make sure that your orders have been filled and checked. Please check your orders before paying the coordinator for your produce. If there has been an adjustment to the invoice in your basket (ie - in case you were short on something), please be sure the coordinator has a note of it on her copy of your invoice. Any and all adjustments should be made before leaving the Voorhees house with your produce.
Perri Pelley is usually there with eggs and sometimes, there are other items available for sale. Please note that those items must be paid for separately and should not be included with your produce payment. If you plan to look for and purchase any of those items, it would be a good idea to be prepared to write a second check or bring some cash to pay for those items separately.
I hope this helps explain a bit about how the produce co-op works. We are so excited to see how many people are taking an interest in feeding their families healthy. I will personally continue to do my best taking produce orders and making items available that may be of interest to you so please feel free to email me if you have a specific question or request.
Thanks,
Susan Fremer
