Hi
Can you explain to me in detail about High Fructose Corn syrup? Is it the MSG a concern for you or ??
This is in everything such as Chili Sauce, Ketchup and other foods that you need to make other meals such as sloppy Joe, Barbque and so on....
I really need a recipe to make my own Chili Sauce. Is there a ketchup that is made without this ingredient??
Thanks
Holly

Hi Holly, MSG is a huge concern for me because it affects my son in an extreme manner. I buy Heinz organic ketchup in Publix and it has no MSG. I have several local health food stores that carry lots of organic foods that are MSG free. You still have to be careful though because some organic foods still have it . I'll go do a search for home made chili sauce and see if I can find one for you. A lot of times, I will resort to making my own taco seasonings etc to make sure I know what's in it. Try this link for chili sauce www.cooks.com/rec/search?q=homemade+chili+sauce

For some reason, I can't make the whole link a clickable one. You might want to copy and paste it to your browser.

Thanks! Yes we see it really affects our oldest son. My youngest is autistic and we are wondering if the MSG is affecting her too. She is 'unofficially' diagnosed with ADHD by her nuerologist. Not sure why it is unofficially but he said it is basically under the autistic disorder diagnoses. meaning it covers that too. She has extreme ups and downs. I just saw that jelly from Smuckers and Welch's have corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. <ack> I can't make jelly as I have no fruit produce growing around here. My sister in law has grapes growing in her field. I may ask her if she knows how to can them to make jelly. Know of any good recipes? What do you make your own instead of buy that has MSG? I have no clue as to what you can make on your own than buy. I am an idiot when it comes to food I think I will be buying those books you recommended earlier when the money comes in. Right now I am lost. Thanks! HOlly

I'm confused. Is high fructose corn syrup also MSG? Or does it contain MSG? Or what?

Corn syrup is a terrible sugar and MSG is an excitotoxin that makes brain cells fire rapidly and uncontrollably and is hidden in tons of our food.

Thanks. I was just confused because the thread started out with HFCS and all of a sudden it was MSG. I've done a bit of online research and it seems to me that it's virtually impossible (or at least extremely difficult) to ban all MSG from our diets unless we only eat home-grown fruits and veggies, bake our own bread and forget condiments. Where do meats fit in here? The other alternative is to buy everything from co-ops which is outside the realm of our pocketbook at the moment. I do my best to avoid MSG, but in looking around the internet, I wonder how I can completely stop all of it from entering our house.

I know. That is why I am just going nuts over this. It is easier to avoid MSG but not corn syrup.
Mom2boys: Corn syrup and/or Corn oil is just a sugar sweetener but does it have MSG in it? Do you know how much?
It is so hard because we are trying to avoid hydrogenated oils too!!

It is pretty hard to keep it out of the house. Now, it is being added to the fertilizers for our produce to make it taste better. We just have to do the best we can.

corn syrup should not have MSG in it, but it could be added to the product that is made with the corn syrup. You will eventually get to the point that you are making most things from scratch or you will find brands that don't have it in it. Simply Organic used to make Hamburger Helper type box meals with low sodium and no MSG. I loved the easieness and safety of it, but they stopped making them

Thanks...
I will have to do my best with corn syrup as I am trying to avoid foods with hydrogenated oils as well as MSG. It is very hard because some of the stuff I use in my cooking has MSG in it. I am going to do what I can to reduce the amount of MSG and Corn syrup in my cooking or what I buy. I may not be able to 100% keep it out of my house.
