I'm very interested in the Make A Mix cookbook that I've read about here in some of your posts. I really, really want to try and get away from food additives in the convenience stuff. I did NOT realize that msg has so many different cover names. It's getting very frustrating.
Where do you all buy it? Is there a discount place on-line?
Would it, say, give me a homemade mix for dry italian dressing and that type of thing? (Presently I'm trying to figure out how to make taco soup without the dry italian mix I have so that's why it's on my mind today.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I borrowed this book from a friend a while back and yes , it has tons of dry mixes. It also has dry cookie mixes and large batch cooking like beef stroganoff that you freeze in portions and then reheat .
I would think that you could check it out from the library. It's an old book.I'm not sure who wrote it.

Thanks, Tina. I checked at my library and they don't have it. I've had fair success finding what I need at www.allrecipes.com. I'm going to post a couple of dry dressing mixes on the Recipe Board in a minute.

Paula - I know that the Urban Homeaker carries this book. I was able to check it out from my library, but we have a large library cooperative, and it came from some tiny library in an obscure little town somewhere. I used it for about 6 weeks before having to return it. It had some good things in it - we really liked the sloppy joe seasoning mix! It has replaced our envelope package mix we used to always use. You might also try amazon - I bet you could find a used copy very cheap! Shauna

This sounds like a really good cookbook, and it got great reviews at Amazon. I think I'm going to order it! ;D

I have used it before and it doesn't work for our house because I don't let my flour sit in mixes without baking it. If you're not grinding fresh flour, it's a great book!
