There are several herbs that actually burn sugar and can help you decrease your need for insulin. Take these at night or you will be craving sugar all day!
They are : Gentian Root Raspberry Leaves Buchu Leaves Saw Palmetto Juniper Berries Huckleberry Leaves Uva-Ursi
Two other substances that are helpful in burning sugar are: COQ10 Max Epa (salmon oil)

I also wanted to add that cinnamon is also being studied as lowering blood sugar levels. I sprinkle some on my cereal, plus take a natural vitamin that contains cinnamon.

Red pepper and cardamen (sp?) are also really good. Fresh parsley in your food is good. I also found if you drink cranberry juice a few times a day it helps with water retention (water it down). But my number 1 hint is.... cut a lemon in half and squeeze one half into 6 to 8 oz of water as hot as you can stand and drink... do not add sugar or anything. The lemon opens your liver and gallbladder ducts and helps to purge your body of leftover nighttime toxins which gives your metabolism a boost.
