Any suggestions for relief for very painful menstrual cramps? This is a new thing with me and I'm am planning to see a Dr about it, but in the meantime is there anything I can do besides Advil? I really hate taking anything, especially since I am nursing. But the cramps have been so bad I find myself taking Advil several times a day. I've tried a heating pad and it doesn't touch it.

Carmen, Try Clary Sage essential oil mixed with massage oil and rub it into your abdomen. This helps me a great deal. I don't know if you can use it and breastfeed though.

I just wanted to add a couple things about clary sage: 1) Make sure that you are using clary sage Salvia sclarea and not common or Spanish sage. 2) Also be certain that you are not pregnant as clary sage can act as an emmenagogue.

Well, it turns out I may have endometriosis. The pain has been severe the past several months, keeping me in bed for several days of my period and even some cramping mid cycle. I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago and it showed a small fibroid (which we already knew was there) but Dr. says it is too small to cause the amount of pain I have. So she suspects endometriosis, but the only definitive way to diagnose it is laproscopic surgery. So the typical course of action is to go on birth control pills for a few months to see if it helps, and if it does help it is pretty certain that it is endo. I really don't like the idea of going on bc pills, not that we're trying to conceive at the moment, but I just do not like putting all that artificial stuff in my body. Not to mention all the possible side effects. I really don't know what to do. My first inclination is to do nothing and live with it, but that probably won't happen since it seems to be getting worse every month. Now my period is lasting about 10 days instead of the normal 5 and along with the torturous cramps, I am completely fatigued and useless to my family. I am wondering if anyone here knows of any type of natural treatments for endometriosis that work and that are safe while breastfeeding?

I'm sorry that you're experiencing such pain and discomfort. I have no clue about taking a natural approach but I'll share openly with you about my use of b/c incase that is the route you have to take. If you're still breastfeeding your option is the mini pill. I took it for 2 months after ds2 and had break-through bleeding everyday...at some moments it was a flood and then would immediatly stop. I quit taking them until after I stopped nursing him. I then picked back up with orthotryclen, only the *lo* newer version. I was on it for nearly 4 years after ds1, then 1 year after ds2, and I started taking it again just last month. I also did try *yasmin* for about three months before I went back on the orthotri-lo with ds2. I hated it, it made me gain weight and started seeing facial hair...which has never been an issue for me. So, I guess my main point is that for *me* the ortho-lo has had no negative side effects. My period was much lighter this month and I had zero cramps. It was my first cycle of being back on it. I was hoping that it would alleviate the severe pms I've been having since I had dd last October, but it did nothing to subside that it.

Hi Carmen, I have a client with endometriosis. I just had her do all of the Hulda Clark parasite cleanses and she actually had a pain free month, so if you are interested in trying that, I can send you the cleanses and how they are done.
I just remembered that you are breast feeding..... I don't think you can do the cleanses..... Let me do some more research on all of the herbs and see what I come up with . Tina

I've been wanting to do a cleanse for quite a while, but that will have to wait. I'm not sure how much longer Wesley will be nursing...he seems to be weaning himself . At this point he is only nursing once or twice during the day and a couple times during the night. It might be a blessing if he weans early though so I can act more aggressively on healing my body.

How old is Wesley now? Wow! I can't believe he's getting big enough to wean himself!
