How do you ladies organize all of your recipes. Mine are a mess and I am starting a big project for them today. I've thought, well, I could organize them alphabetically, or by the food group, or by the type of dish (cookies, muffins, Main dish, salads, breads, etc., ) How do you do yours? I am usre every one does it different and I'd like to hear differing ideas to borrow from you. ;D
Also, Goodness, mine are just a big fat mess. I have cookbooks, I have E-mail run offs, little advertisements with pretty pictures and recipes on them that Ive saved, taste of home magazines, and countless little index cards that are homemade with family recipes. What do you do with all of this?

Here's how I organize mine, it is by no means fool-proof but it works for me.
I keep a large 3 ring binder for recipes I've printed. I do have it tabbed by type of food. I *try* to type up all recipes that I've clipped that aren't a standard size, although I must confess there are quite a few stuffed into the pocket of the binder.
The thing that has helped me most is my spiral bound index cards. They are oversized, perhaps 5 x 7. I jot down the source of all our favorite recipes in this little book. I set up the categories a little different in this one. I have them separated by breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, sweets. The dinner category is also broken down by meatless, beef, turkey, chicken, etc. For example, some roast beef wrap sandwiches from the Quick Cooking magazine would be listed like this:
Roast Beef Wrap - Nov/Dec 1998 QC
Or...the Best Sugar Cookies - Minnesota cookbook pg 169
Since I have upwards of 200 cookbooks and magazines, I like to have the quick reference of where to find our favorites. It also helps when working on our monthly menu. I can flip through my index cards for ideas.

I collected recipe books at one time. One day, I decided that if I don't cook with them , there's really no need to keep them. So, I went through them all and freecycled the ones I don't use. I have a binder also with page protectors that slip my favorite loose recipes into.
