I have received 3 contact names in my area for buying clubs.
Can you give me a description of what a buying club is??
Thanks Laura

A buying club is exactly what we are . It's just a group of people that get together to order in bulk and take advantage of wholesale pricing.

May 10 2006 is when I made the original post. Today is March 9 2007 and I FINALLY found a buying club close to me!!! I went to the United Natural Foods website and requested a catalog. They sent me a list of all the co-ops in my state and I chose one that is less than 15 miles from my home.
I have not placed my first order. I want to order things like wheat, honey, oats, things like this. Is there anything I should know?? Thanks Laura
PS I AM SO GLAD this board is coming back to life!!

woohoo! yippee for you that you finally found one! so, I'm not sure if your question is a United one, or a nutrition one. Can you elaborate any?

Laura, The wheat that I have seen from United comes in bags which is different than what I am used to , but I have not heard any complaints of bugs in all of the time we have been ordering from them, so they must keep it in the freezer which is great for you. Try to find the source of where their honey is coming from. You want to get it as close to your region as possible for it to be effective against pollen allergies.
It's great to see you back on the boards.

Are you saying I will have to store 50lbs of wheat in my freezer?? YIKES not good! Can I get a large container that the lid seals, and use it instead? Is there a better way to order grain?
I never thought about the honey. Who would I ask about it's origin? United?
What about coconut oil. I didn't see it anywhere on the United list? Will I have to secure a different place for that? I have used Tropical Traditions, and LOVED IT!! It is very expensive though.......I am sure it's a wee bit cheaper if I buy it in bulk?
The co-op lady told me to check out Wild Oats, that sometimes they are cheaper than United? Is this the case, and if so, what are usually the items that Wild Oats carries at a lesser cost??
I am so glad to see this board up and running again. May I link this site to my blog? Thanks Laura

You should be able to just store it in a bucket with a lid. It's good that United freezes the grain because there is no chance of bug infestation at the warehouse level that will then infest your house...
United has a search feature that will tell you about their products that should tell you where the honey is from.
Tropical Traditions has buying club pricing so if you can get enough of the ladies in the present United catalog to order with you , you'll get the oil cheaper. That's what we do.
