Tina (or other knowledgeable folks), Your comment on avoiding too much calcium to prevent gall stones prompted a question. I had my gall bladder removed in '91. Do you know of any special diet considerations for a person who is minus 1 gall bladder LOL?! His, Chris

I don't have a diet for it yet. I did just finish reading that the main reasons that gallbladders get removed is because the body is too acid! It seems like everything revolves around this acid/alkaline thing. The book said that removing the gallbladder only removes they symptom. The problem is still there.
It said that when you are too acid, and don't have an alkaline reserve, that the body will pull sodium from the sodium cholesterol bond(I can't remember the chemical name) to netralize the acid. It leaves only cholesterol in the liver. The cholesterol then hardens to stones.
I didn't mean to get off on that one, but I thought that was really interesting.
I'll see if I can find a diet for someone without a gallbladder. I think you would be fine just eating things the closest to the way God made them though

Don't know about being too acid...it wouldn't surprise me...But my doc says my gall stones were caused by rapid weight loss (I lost 40 lbs last year). I almost had mine removed in October 2004 at the VERY beginning of this pregnancy.
I ended up doing a cleanse instead...my doc wasn't super keen on it but was willing to support me in the decision and I'm thankful that it went that way...
However, as far as life without your gallbladder it really depends on you...on how regularly the bile is being released into the bowel etc. Some folk are allergic to things which exacerbate the digestion issues....some of the worst offenders for allergy reasons are eggs (like 1 in 9 people), dairy, pork...but there are many others.
Some things that can really help you
Lecithin...it is a fat emulsifier that basically helps to break down any fats that you consume...you should be pretty low fat most of the time, but if you are having problems even with leaner meats, lecithin can really help.
Milk Thistle is helpful keeping your liver strong and running smoothly which is doubly important with your gall bladder gone.
And ginger...it really helps with those food items that do upset your stomache...you take the supplements until you can taste them in the back of your throat.
