Okay, I don't know that I have it, but because I'm delivering in the hospital my mw says that she will have to test for it...she's been great about not making me test for ANYTHING, but this one she says she has to because of the hospital situation...
Okay, so fine.
I said, "I've never had it before and if I test positive I want to try a natural remedy for a week or so before we go antibiotic"...She said, "Okay, here is the thing...if it tests positive and you fix it and then it tests negative, the pediatrician in the hosp may still be worried and we REALLY don't want that baby on antibiotics...SO, do what you have to do NOW to make sure that you test negative"...and she's pushing my test out an extra week so I have 3 weeks instead of 2 to make sure.
So what can I do to MAKE SURE there is NOTHING to find? Is garlic enough? and how much per day? How 'bout an immune booster like echinacea...would that fix it if it's there?
I don't want anything too harsh because I am preggo and don't know for sure that I have ANYTHING, but I want to be proactive on this one as far as it safe.
Okay, I'm also posting this on the shed, in case some there don't come here, so those of you that frequent both...you'll see this again.
Thanks.

make some suppositories with virgin coconut oil and you know what to do with them ;D. It is an antibacterial and should kill any strep. Douching with ACV should also help. What the heck. Add some garlic in there too! I think I just came up with a recipe for man repellent! We don't want that

I had group B strep with my last pregnancy. There is a ton of stuff you can do...I took garlic, echinacea, colliodial silver, grapefruitseed extract, and a probiotic. Yes, sounds a little bit overboard but I wanted to be sure it was gone by the time the baby was born. I had a homebirth and I chose to get the IV antibiotics because we did not get a chance to re-test before labor started. If it occurs in any future pregnancies I will refuse the antibiotic (which you CAN also do in the hospital even if the Dr is pushing it). My midwife administered it and it only took about 10 minutes to empty the bag. She just sat next to me and held it while it was being administered. She used a butterfly needle(?) so I didn't have to have the IV thing in my hand the whole time. Quick and easy.
If you do choose to do the antibiotic treatment, please don't forget to get on a good probiotic to protect yourself and your baby from yeast problems. Thrush can be extremely painful and not something you want to be dealing with while you are establishing your nursing relationship.

Oops, I mis-read your question. You don't actually have group b strep, but want to prevent it. Okay... Let me look to see if I can find the dosages to all the stuff I took: 1. Twice a day, with breakfast and dinner: Acidophilus or pro-biotic supplement: 4 billion cells per dose Echinacea: Two 350 mg (each) capsules Garlic: Two fresh cloves Vitamin C: 1500 mg Grapefruit seed extract: 15 drops in juice or water Colloidial Silver: 1 tsp (once a day) Good luck!

Carmen, I'm going to the store today, I have some of that stuff, but I'll have to grad a couple more...thanks
Actually on both the douching and the suppositories...can't do it until I'm much closer to due date because in both of my pregnancies my water has broken too early...so we're (mw and I) aren't taking any chances.
Thank you all so much!!!

You're right Sam. Don't douche with it with a lot of force. Just kind of irrigate. Can you guys tell I'm still in school? Carmen does know better than me in these situations since that is where she is specialising. She's the one I call with questions right now

I too had Group B strep and I too did antibiotics, though don't know if I'd do that again. There was an article in the Mothering magazine all about it, so you may find some good advice at the website. (www.Mothering.com). Hope this helps! Blessings

Thanks for the www.mothering.com web-site.I'm going over there right now to check it out. My friend did the coconut oil/garlic suppositories thingies..and they worked really good for her. I'm thinking I will be doing this just as a preventative starting at 6 weeks til. Tina...that was funny about the "man repellant" remark. Haha I bet most dh's would agree..but my dh IS hardy...so, he's not gonna mind. LOL Daisey
