Okay, my dh is not totally convinced that the fresh cow's milk I bought from my friend is better than what I've always bought at the store. (After all, isn't there a REASON milk is homogenized and pasteurized? That is his question.) Help me out here!

Here's a little. I have to hurry because dh is ready for bed. Milk is homogenized to increase the shelf life. It also increases our risk of high cholesterol. Since the fat globules get smaller when homogenized (hence the cream doesn't rise to the top) it is able to hide in our intestines and be absorbed over and over again. Homogenizing milk also renders the calcium in it useless to us.
Milk is pasteurized for our "safety" but the funny thing is that milk actually has good bacteria in it that fights any bad bacteria that could make us sick. The test for pasteurization is when all of that good bacteria is gone! So , I believe that unpasteurized milk is much safer for us and healthier of course. I will supply links later.

Check out www.realmilk.org. Lots of good information there about raw vs. pasturized milk.

Interesting link! I understand also that raw milk is alkaline (the body is left in an alkaline state after raw milk's digestion -assuming normal/complete digestion) whereas pateurized milk is acid.

Dandelion, I have also read that raw milk is alkaline, but I've only found it in one place. Have you read this as well or is it something that you learned from my writings here? I'm just curious if there are more sources to back this up. I like to have more than one source when I'm teaching. Thanks, Tina

Paula, My husband is a dairy farmer! I'm so glad we have access to raw milk! My opinion is that the closer something is to the way God created it, the better. Just as it is better to eat raw foods, so it is to drink raw milk! Here are a couple links to some websites with information on milk. Small DairyCreamlineReal MilkI hope these are helpful. In is illegal in our state to sell raw milk unless you have a permit. We are currently looking into getting certified to sell raw milk! Yippee!

In Indiana you are not allowed to buy raw milk. It has to be pasturized. So we go for the most closest thing....Organic pasterized milk only. It is not homogenized. It taste almost like raw milk with the thick creamy milk with the cream on the top for churning butter if you wish. The company we buy our milk from is listed in the realmilk.com website. The color of this milk is of a cream color where the homogenized milk is all white because they bleached it to make it white instead of it's natural color.

It is illegal here in Florida too, but there are ways to get around it.

(raw milk and whey -alkaline, but pastuerized milk, and most else like cheese, cream, butter -acid) Whether they tried using both types of milk for their tests, though ?! I'd like to find out more on all this, too! (going to check out above mentioned sites
