Hey Tina, Dh has been GF since January. During the month of May he pretty much went off the diet for 3 weeks and ended up making himself awfully sick. We're starting week 4 of him being GF again and still going through the detox phase. He ate 18 hershey bars this week! Yes, he's in a major sugar craze....his mood swings this weekend were incredible. He bottoms out to wear he doesn't care about anything. He sat in church today...whole service, wouldn't stand, wouldn't pray...nothing. This is sooo not like him. We had a good talk this evening and I think he's ready to cut the sugar out, too. I've been reading up on the acid/alkaline threads. He basically only eats acid, we know that his irons levels are sky high and his thyroid is low. Could the acid/alkaline have anything to do with that? I am just so frustrated and want him to be well. His stomach is not able to tolerate too many flours. Even the GF pasta I was making him, made him ill. It was made with tapioca flour and cornstarch...(I know that the cornstarch is not good). I can't get the man to eat a raw vegetable for the life of me. If I could show him the positive side of his chemicals being aligned then he would eat healthier. After today he's ready to go request antidepressent meds...and knowing his eating patterns I truely feel in my heart that it's not a mental issue. I think he's making himself sick by eating the wrong foods and not eating the right ones. He's been living off of steak, rice, instant mashed potatos, and hershey bars. He does drink alot of water...but that's the only good thing he does for his body.
Also, forgot to add about his liver...his enzymes are very high. He was told to never drink alcohol because it's in pretty bad shape for his age and for only having a few glasses of wine in his lifetime. The doctors thought he was an alcoholic and very surprised when we stated that he doesn't drink and never has.
I know that you're super busy and I'm not even sure when I'll be able to get back on and check this. I'm just throwing my thoughts on the table while they're fresh and before I head into another busy week.
Thanks! Angie

Angie, A couple of things came to me when I was reading your post. Is is possible that your dh has candida issues on top of everything else? (yeast) Does he get athletes foot or jock itch(you don't have to answer that , just ask yourself) Most allopathic docs will not address this as a yeast overgrowth, but with 18 candy bars in one week, I am wondering where that sugar is going. If he doesn't have a problem with it now, he will if he doesn't slow down.
Niacin and B complex would pull him out of his depression. They are both central nervous system supports. He can also do a liver cleanse to help get those enzymes down. I know that Nature's Sunshine is dairy free, but I'll post the label here so you can check it out. B complex is also a great adrenal support. I really don't do Natures Sunshine to sell it to others. I use the company because they have been the best so far,and I just pass my cost on to others. Let me go look the vitamins up.
On the acid/alkaline issue. I don't know if that would help him with depression or not....I do know that he might like the foods if he tried them. I know that you would. Especially the green sun dressing and the fettucine dish that I just posted. I am in love with that stuff. The thing about raw foods is that they are so energizing. I didn't really grasp that until I started eating them and I feel great! Okay, I'm off to post some of these labels for you.

I think this was $15.75. If he does the adrenal support, he does not need the B complex because it's already in this one. If you decide to get any of these, just PM me and I'll send you my ID and password. You can just log on an ship it to your house.

Thanks, Tina. I quickly read up on candida awhile back...but then never did anymore research about it. Can you explain what it is exactly?
So, for the vitamins, would you suggest the adrenal support and niacin?

Yes, that would be my suggestion for now. I wish you guys were closer so we could muscle test him to see exactly how much he needs. Just follow the label directions. You can find Nature's Sunshine in health food stores near you if you don't want to wait for the mail. I don't know how much they charge though.
Candida is an overgrowth of yeast in the intestines. You crave sugar because that is what the candida feeds on. The yeast also like potatos, carrots , yeast breads......Anything that turn to sugar in your system. Corn is another one....It might be worth looking into. I forgot to look up the liver detox for him. If you want me to do that, I will.

Yes, he's definently interested in the liver detox and candida. When I stumbled upon the candida info it was because the symptoms were very similar to celiac. I remember wondering of I should research it more...but so many things were pointing to celiac, that I left it alone. The sugar cravings are certainly making more sense to us now. He does have peeling skin on the bottom of his feet all the time, but we've been attributing to his shoes getting wet at work. Could candida also cause the dry bumpy rash on his forearms?

Does the rash itch? There is a test he can do for candida by spitting in a glass of water. Let me go find the info on it and I'll come back and post it.

Will the liver cleanse make his stomach sick?

Post by Mom2boys on Jun 21, 2005 6:29:31 GMT -5
It seems to me that if it were yeast , it would be itchy and irritated. Maybe he just has eczema.
The pH of 7 is good.

I shouldn't make his stomach sick but he could get a headache or feel like he is coming down with a cold. That''s just part of detoxing. When all of those toxins start coming out it can make you feel sick.It should not last more than a day or two.
