How embarrassing. I took my son to get his haircut yesterday and saw the gal picking through his hair. I immediately wondered if he had lice or something and then I heard her ask him if he has psoriasis. I went over and he has white gunky stuff in a couple of places on his head and a little bit of it was red-looking underneath the gunky stuff. Yuck, yuck, yuck. I have no idea what psoriasis really looks like and she was a fairly young girl cutting his hair so she probably hasn't seen a whole lot of it herself.
I asked my son later about it and he said he had noticed it for about a month but it seemed to be getting better. He kept "forgetting" to tell me about it. ???He's 13 and really couldn't care less about his head these days, I guess. How silly I felt finding out about it from the hairdresser.
Could it be psoriasis?? What should I do to get rid of it?

My kids both have excema. They get it in their hair really bad. I have them use a Tgel shampoo every once in a while. They don't use it all the time, because I can't afford it for every day use. They probably use it once a week or every two weeks.
I also heard that flax seed oil is really good for excema or psoriasis. I bought some seeds, but we haven't tried them yet.
Hope this helps!

I would wonder if it is allergy related.

Hmmm....I'd do more research. (I'm sure you are!) Here's a link to some information. Note that it's coming from a western medicine type source of information, but at the bottom there are a few "non-traditional" treatments listed. blueprint.bluecrossmn.com/topic/topic100587361I also seem to remember reading something about using oils and essential oils for treatment. I'll dig around and see what I can find. All that said....I'm just thinking out loud....a boy age 13, hair washing probably isn't on his list of top 5 priorities, plus the added hormones and physical changes.....maybe things just got a bit gunked up?
