I have no advice for you, but I will be following this thread closely. My oldest also has asthma. Although, not nearly as bad as your son. He was on Singulair for a while, but his behavior was absolutely atrocious while he was on it. We decided to take him off and see what happens. He's been off since March and so far he's been fine without it. He has an albuterol inhaler that he uses when needed, but it is very rare that he needs to use it. Normally, if he is having a hard time, we can just get him to sit and rest until it subsides. We only seem to have trouble during allergy season or if he gets a bad cold. We are doing everything we can to help with the allergies though, including slowly removing all the carpet from our house.

Do you know what is causing the asthma? Is it environmental? If so, there are things you can do to help those issues and maybe take care of the problem.

my son is allergic to trees, grass, pollen, mold, carpet fungus. But he is not allergic to dogs or cats. Is'nt that weird? Anyways every time we try to wean him off his meds he ends up in the hospital. Usually January through April is the worst time for him. We have been told to remove the carpet from our home also but we have not done that yet. We also have all beds in plastic covers that zip shut. My husband also has asthma.

For environmental allergies, you can try local raw honey. You would be amazed at how much it helps. Just give him a teaspoon per day. Bee pollen is another good one.
