My 10 year old son's appendix ruptured which resulted in an appendectomy. A few days after the surgery, they discovered that he was collecting fluid where he shouldn't be. They said most of it was pooling around his back. The term they used for it was called an abcess. They decided to insert a drain in him to get the fluid out but they drained most of the fluid out before they put the drain in. The drain only needed to be in for 24 hours. They decided to check for the abcess because he wasn't keeping any solid food down. He still had trouble keeping solids down after the drain was taken out. He'd eat a few bites and then feel nauseaus but didn't actually throw up because he'd stop eating when he started feeling nauseaus. The nurse said the nausea could have to do with the antibiotics he was on, Roseffin and Flagil (not sure if I spelled those right). We were released yesterday after 10 long days. He hasn't felt nauseaus since he's been home so I'm thinking the nurse may have been right about the antibiotics.
He says he feels normal now. I guess I'm wondering what I should do for him now. I've heard that once your appendix is removed, you are more susceptible to illness. Are there any special supplements that he should be on? I've been putting Natural Factors Learning Factors Daily Nutrient Boost in his smoothies and a Chewable Acidophilus with bifidus supplement. The Natural Factors Learning Factors Daily Nutrient Boost says it "promotes brain, gastrointestinal & immune system health". Is there anything else I should be doing for him?
