Ok, this will be my first post, hope it works, couldnt resist not putting in my "Morning shake recipe", actually my husband made this recipe. its distilled water, brussel sprouts, green pepper, red pepper, yellow pepper (these are just julliene and added not all of the peppers jsut a few jullienes), Kale, red cabbage, carrot, celery, blueberries, strawberries, cherries, honey, coc nut cream concentrate (he puts in yogurt -nonfat, plain---- I prefer not to have mine with yogurt) flax seed(milled)and blend very well. hold your nose while drinking and you wont taste it much. but I love the way I feel afterwards.... energy is up, feel full, head is clear.

I am so excited to see someone else join this discussion! ;D I was just reading yesterday about blended salads which is what your recipe sounds like to me. I don't know if I am there yet as I am just getting started, but thank you soooo much for sharing and I will be sure to save the recipe for a braver day!

Yeah!! I am so happy! Finally found a smoothie I really like and don't just force myself to drink because it is good for me and I don't want to waste. This morning I did a simple 60/40 mango/spinach smoothie. This is my best yet.
And my 13yodd Amanda also liked it.... although when we made hers she opted to add banana and she added a pinch or two of sucanat, but she is currently sitting on the couch snuggling with the pup (who likes it, too) and sipping away.

Well, I have tried the mango and parsley, it was okay at first, but about the third time I drank it I really liked it. I still like the spinach better. And Amanda despises the parsley. But we are continuing to experiment.
I am drinkining my second green smoothie this morning and enjoying it. My first was a mango/parsley, this one is 2 whole apples, 1 whole kiwi and a big cupful of parsley. It is very tasty. I was craving apples so I made it into a smoothie.
I would still like to see some other people's favorite blends to try. We have not yet found a green smoothie that Luke likes.

I did blueberry, banana and parsley today. Julie will be demonstrating several different ones tomorrow night. I bought the ingredients tonight and there is going to be OJ in one of them.

Does anyone have suggestions for leftover smoothie? I made the kale/berry smoothie. The kids liked it but I still have half a blender full. I was thinking of freezing it in icecube trays and then blending it up again later? What do you think? Also how would raw milk effect the food combining of a fruit and a green?

Hi there! YES - you can freeze leftover smoothies into ice cube trays and reblend later! Great question!
I do not use raw milk, so I have not tried it in the smoothies. I know that it is easier to digest than pasteurized/homogenized milk, however, I think the principle of not eating fruit with anything else (other than greens) still applies. I often use my homemade almond milk (frozen) as a smoothie base, and that seems to work well.
Hope that helps!

I started a Green Smoothie fast. Yesterday, I had 2 granola bars and a banana before bed. But I had a Mang orange smoothie for breakfast and for lunch I added some apple and strawberry juice (fresh squeezed) the mang orange smoothie. Yum!! Today I had the same smoothie, and will probably have the same for lunch and dinner. Since starting to incorporate more raw foods in my diet, I have lost a total of 8 pounds! 6 pounds in three days when I first started last month, (but kept it off) then 2 in the last two days. My only concern is with having candida issues, should I be limiting the sweeter fruits in the green smoothie?

Sounds very inspiring. I found an interesting article in the October 2006 edition of the Raw Family newsletter. Here is the link- www.rawfamily.com/news/RFNews_10_2006.pdfVictoria Boutenko shares the nuts and bolts of how she and her family eat, even sharing how she shops. I love the practicality and it is very informative. She feels it is very important to vary the greens that you use to get the most benefit. This sounds right, but I also think it is important to listen to your body. If you are craving a certain green or tastes "right", go for it! Same thing for the fruits, if they are causing a candida issue, you will know! Of course I am sure you would like to avoid it. Taking digestive enzymes should help your body to digest and absorb the sugars in the right way.

I made one yesterday consisting of 1c. pineappe, 1 banana, 1 kiwi, 1c. yogurt, a large handful of spinach and about 6 ice cubes. I told the boys it was green because of the kiwi They said it was the BEST smoothie I'd ever made

Do you have to have a Vita-Mix to make the green smoothies or could you use a blender?
Has anyone tried this?

You can use a regular blender. You may just need to make them a little thinner. Let us know how it works out.

I have used a regular blender to make green smoothies. It works best if you make smaller batches and you do have to let it blend a little longer to get it very smooth. Sometimes I would find little bits of green in the smoothies. Using a little extra liquid helps also.

This is in response to the candida question above.... Green smoothies will generally not cause candida issues. Candida is more likely to occur when mixing fruits (sugar) with fats, such as dates and nuts. Mixing fruit with greens creates a whole different chemical reaction in the body.

Dandelion alert!
We have begun adding dandelion greens to our smoothies... and this is a perfect time of year for them. I am jealous of those of you living up north who can just go out in your yard and pick them!
So far I enjoy a simple smoothis of pineapple and dandelion! My dd Amanda likes to add banana to this same mixture!
Anyone else using dandelions have good recipes to share?
