This is in response to Kristy in the introduction message.
I have found that a good 60/40 ratio works best for me. That would be 60% fruit and 40% greens.
This morning , I did one banana, one whole apple including stem ,core and seeds, about a cup of strawberries with the tops still on and a handful of kale. I added some ice to make it really cold and some distilled water to get the vitamix moving.
Spinach is my favorite green to add . I like pineapple , mango and papaya in my green smoothies as well. If you stick to the 60/40 you should not taste the greens.

I have been using the 60/40 ratio and haven't had tasting the greens be an issue. But I am one of those odd people that likes the taste of greens. ;D I guess I just haven't found the right combo of fruits. Thanks for sharing your combos, Tina. Does anyone else have any favorite combos?

This is a bit off of the smoothie subject... but I was wondering about how long it took for you to go raw once you decided to do it. Maybe you could share a bit of your journey with those of us who are just beginning to embark...

Julie Disser is going to be demonstrating these at the next potluck and she shared with me that she has been combining berries and parsley and that it is quite good. You may want to give that one a try.

I have flirted with raw foods for about 3 years. I discovered Serene Allison's book Rejuvenate Your life and loved the herbs and flavors that came out in the combinations that she created. It amazed me how good the food felt in my mouth.. I know that sounds strange ,but raw salad dressings have an amazing "life" to them. You can just taste it.
I was reintroduced to them when some of the ladies in our produce co-op wanted a potluck. I just jumped in with both feet so to say. I am losing weight and feeling great! I can say I am 80% raw on a bad day but do about 90% raw veggies with 10% cooked veggies and some fresh fish. It's working well for me.

Thanks! All of that is helpful.
And I do know what you mean when you say the food just feels good in your mouth. I have the same experience. I feel very whole and vibrant when I am eating a salad with a raw dressing.

I made a raw thin mint fudge cake tonight that I did not like too much. I think it was the lemon juice that seemed to stand out too much.... So far, the only sweet dessert that I like is Jackie Graff's raw apple pie. I'm contemplating buying her dessert book.

I tried a new (for me) smoothie combination this morning. About a cup of frozen sweet dark cherries, a granny smith apple (stem, core, and all), a stalk of celery (leaves and all), and a couple of kale leaves.
I liked it the best of all my smoothie attempts so far. I like the mixture of sweet, tart, and salty. I found it quite tasty. On the other hand my kids went, ugh! I added more fruit to try to appease them and they still went ugh!
Any hints on turning the kids onto green smoothies?
Also, if the smoothies sit for a little while is it normal for them to get a foamy, jelly-like texture? I may not be describing the texture quite right, but I find it strange. So although I may like the taste, the texture changes, and I am not a fast drinker/eater.

I did mango and parsley this morning and it was by far my favorite. We are going to split some parsley at this weeks co-op. If anyone is interested , let me know.
I'm not sure about the texture change.... It may be the enzymes breaking the fruit and greens down.

I would definitely like to get in on the parsley.

I would like some parsley too. Tina, did you do just mango and parsley? I am wondering if there is any way I could find a smoothie that I would like. I don't like pulp in my orange juice or seeds in strawberry smoothies. Last week I did apple, strawberries, kale, spinach, and I think pear in the juicer. That I could handle, it was actually quite good. but I hate to think about all of the nutrients I am missing by juicing it.

Yes, it was about three cups of mango to one bunch of parsley.
