Has anyone ever used a yogurt culture starter to make their homemade yogurt instead of plain yogurt? I found a place that sells it for like $18 to make a ton of gallons of yogurt (60??) . I am thinking this would work out very cost effective in the long run. I didn't see any directions as to how much to use in each gallon of milk. It was a tiny container, so it couldn't be much. Maybe it said, but I was in a rush and I had my dc with me.
Is this a good route to go or would stoneyfield plain yogurt be better?

Well, Stoneyfield is just over a dollar for a small container and you would use a tablespoon to culture your yogurt. From then on, you'd just use YOUR yogurt culture to make additional batches, so it would come out cheaper to do Stoneyfield.
