1. One of my goals is for you to become thoroughly familiar with Titus 2:3-5. To help you, take time to write out Titus 2:3-5.
2. Read over what you wrote in question one and think about it carefully. What is Paul saying? How could you explain it to someone else? Write Titus 2:3-5 again except this time paraphrase it in your own words.
3. According to Titus 2:3-5, what should the older woman be like? In other words, how did the Apostle Paul describe her character?
4. From Titus 2:3-5 make a list of what the older woman is to teach and encourage the younger woman to do.
5. If an older woman were discipling you, what would you want her to do?
6. In Titus2:3-5 Paul was very specific about the role of the older woman in the life of the younger woman. In a general sense, all Christians are to minister to one another. Look up the following verses and write out some of the other ways women are to be involved in each other's lives. (There are several, so I will break them up over the next 3 days.) A. Galatians 6:2 B. Matthew 22:39 C. 1 John 4:7 D. 1 Peter 4:9 E. Hebrews 3:13 F. 1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 G. Galatians 6:10

I read through + wrote down Titus 2:3-5.
The first question was: What is Paul saying?
Paul is saying "FIRST teach the older women. In order for them to be able to appropriately teach the younger, they FIRST need to be trained. Once trained, the older are to seek out the younger. The older is to teach / train the younger what is important to God. This is a "quick list" of the Fruits of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians. The older are to teach the younger God's place for them, their ministry if you will.......which is in the home. The older are to teach the younger how to respect their husbands authority, and how to train the children. The reason for all of this? It is for God's Glory. When you pray "Oh Lord, what can I do today to bring Glory to your Name".......the answer is right here in Titus 2:3-5.
Question 2 is "How could you explain it to someone else?"
Just like it says above, only I would seek out other Scripture that supports what Paul is saying, so it doesn't look like "my opinion" by that it's Truth from God's Word.
Question 3 " Re-write these verses in our own words"
First things first. Teach the older women to be reverant. Showing the highest respect for The Lord, His house, His property in His house, His Word, His people. Teach them the fruits of the Spirit and when it becomes who they are..........have the older women seek out the younger to teach them. Teach the younger women what is really important. First; reverance, a loving fear of the Lord. Then teach them what their place & purpose in life is to be; in the home, caring for their husbands, respecting his authority, training the children. Teach them the reason they do this...........
It is for God's Glory alone.
This is how women can be that "shining light" that attracts the lost. This is how women can "come out and be separate". The world has it's ways.......but God's Ways are to be different, set apart, holy.
Older women, your responsibility is to prepare the next generation, and do this with Joy, because you are serving the Lord. Younger women, you responsibility is to receive this instruction with Joy, because you are serving the Lord. Older women and younger women the children are watching.

I just want to say that I am totally enjoying this Bible study. Laura had a good explanation.
God has shown me that there are some things in my life that I need to cut out. One of them is women's ministry. The other is this Bible study. I am already doing the First Place study and Bible reading committments as part of the class that I am teaching and while I enjoy this study, I am having a hard time keeping up with the questions.
Please don't stop doing it, because I am enjoying reading the replies and the text as I am sure that others are. I just don't have time to do the homework. I may still chime in here and there. I hope I'm not letting anyone down.

Tina, I am so proud of you for setting these boundaries in your life. I am learning so much from you and I appreciate your openness and honesty. I guess we are both getting pruned, huh? Cherise

Matthew 22:39 QUESTION 3: NIV= to be reverent / NOT slanderers / NOT addicted to wine. KJV= holy behavior / NOT false witnesses / teachers of good things. Here character could be described as: Above reproach . holy / likened to a light on a hill QUESTION 4: NIV= To love husbands + children / to be self-controlled/ to be pure / to be busy at home / to be kind / to be subject to their husbands. KJV= To be sober / to love their husbands + children/ to be discreet / to be chaste / to be keepers of their homes / to be good / to be obedient to their husbands. QUESTION 5: Honesty. Truth. Guidance. Accountability. Encourage, in Truth. I would want her to ALWAYS go to Scripture for the answer. I would want someone firmly planted in the Word, and not the world. You have no idea what I would give to have just one relationship like this. QUESTION 6: Galatians 6:2 2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Burden in Greek is baros: meaning a weight, or anything pressing on one physically or that makes a demand on ones resources whether material or spiritual. The way "baros" is used in this passaged is in the "spiritual" sense. The way to be involved? To edify. To build up. To strengthen and encourage a close walk with Christ. To show Truth. Matthew 22:39 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. Neighbor in Greek is Geiton meaning one living in the same land / it is also Perioikos meaning an adjective "dwelling around" / it is also Plesion meaning the one near. Love in Greek has 4-5 different meanings. I could not get what it was in this part of the passage. Where it says "Love the Lord your God" is agape. But that is the kind of love the Father has for the Son. What I did find in my Vines is the below: " Love can be known only from the actions it prompts. God's Love is seen in the gift of His Son. Christian love has God for it's primary object, and expresses itself first of all in implicit obedience to His Commandments." "Christian love whether exercised toward the brethren or toward men generally is not an impulse from the "feeling" it does not always run with natural inclinations. nor does it spend itself only upon those whom some affinity is discovered. Love seeks the welfare of all, and works no ill to any. Love seeks opportunity to do good to all men, especially toward them that are of the household of faith." I could not have said it better myself!! Laura
