I was just diagnosed with diabetes a couple months ago. Since then I have been having a hard time with it. Salads alone will cause my sugars to spike. Ive been following the dietician and the dr, but have had to change somethings around. Just when I think Im getting it, my sugars turn around on me. Very frustrating!

Dulcie,
my mom and mil both have diabetes and one doc told my mil to stay away from cabbage, carrots and peas, as they are loaded with natural sugar. i don't know if those are heavy in your diet or not. Also, my mom is on a low carb diet, not really as strict as Atkins' but is restricting it and both of those two things together have helped her sugars stay stable.
good luck!

Sorry to hear that you are suffering from diabetes, and that your sugars are spiking....
Even for me most times stress will spike my levels worse than what I eat. I've been going through some family issues and boy I tell ya my blood has been high. Or also when I'm not feeling well, cold, flu etc... that can cause your sugar to spike as well.
Good luck diabetes is a disease that can really reek havic on your body if you don't take care of yourself. So do what you can to get the levels down it takes time in the beginning to figure out a good eating routine. I'm always here if you need advice. I'm going on into my third year here with diabetes.

hi judy..no stress here...other than 4 children lol. im still running high. ive cut out most of my carbs and still running high..i did have a very small bowl of ice cream last night for my daughters bday. but i was running high yday afternoon too. though i have noticed..i ran pretty good yday morning and did not feel good, even though i was running in the 80s and 90s...i wonder if i didnt feel good simply because im not used to running that low? i did go down to 69 though, and i usually do go pretty low if i dont have a starch or fruit. its just trying to balance them out that im struggling wiht.

eggs with cheese took me up to 165 half an hr after i ate them. ugh ugh ugh. i just dont have good enough control over this. at what point do i give up and say i obviously cant control this? ive tried about everything (though there are a few that i wont try...one that has been suggested is foods that raise me way high..complex carbs and fruits...i dont see how that would work). usually proteins keep me semi low...but not today sigh. its sad when a salad or eggs take you too high.

hey, sounds like me in alot of ways, but you have to remember that your sugar is supppose to rise after you eat and 165 is not bad at all. Its when you get over 190 that you need to worry and only if its like 2 hours after you eat. The lows you have are way to low for me, I can't drop that low otherwise I shake. Keep the faith it sounds to me like you are doing a great job.

hmm my dietician and dr dont want it over 130 at all. 2 hrs after i ate a salad its sitting at 172. and with an egg and cheese should they raise that high? when my sugars get under 90 then i start feeling funny.

Dulcie, take a look at this link: www.doctoryourself.com/diabetes.htmlThis is rather incomplete compared to what's in the book, and perhaps you'd want to order the book. I have it and think it's great! Ruth

130 wow that is low for after eating. I was told to keep it down to 180 2 hours after eating. Goodness me that is almost impossible for me to keep it under 130 all the time.
Are you one medication at all? I take metformin 1/2 a pill twice a day. I've been pretty successful with that. Yesterday my dd was going through a tough time and it was 154 before dinner, stress makes me high.......

no im not on medicine. my dr is hoping diet and exercise will control it. im supposed to keep it between 90-130. though i see 80 a lot. hmm maybe this is why im having problems! yday i had good sugars. but i also didnt eat as much as i should, i missed my snacks so i was starving all day. i only had 3 meals, and after lunch (salad) it only went to 126. oh i did have a low carb shake last night, i was soo hungry and had to have something to eat. thankfully that took the edge off for me. so today ill add my snacks in and see what happens..fruits in the morning are bad for me ive noticed. so im going to find something else for snack this morning. and see if just maybe i can get it figured out.

How are things going for you now? I take the medication for the diabeties so maybe that why we are different.
You and your family are beautiful by the way I love the picture. I must say that you don't look to be over weight at all either. That is good when struggleing with this. I hope things are getting better for you.

Dulcie~I will be looking to hear what the doc says. The pills are not so bad. Don't be discouraged if you have to take them either. Sometimes when your sugar gets under control with the help of meds, you are able to stop them if you can keep your sugar levels down. Maybe you will just need the meds to get it under control...... May I ask did you ever suffer from gestastional diabetes?
Talk tomorrow fill me in on the doc visit. I will hold you in my prayers.

Hey Dulcie!!
Praying for you still.
So any reason for not taking your herbals or was that just a day?
I've been out of a couple of mine for a couple of days and have been eating poorly and just feel awful...AND I have a mw appt tomorrow.
I'm feeling a purple funk coming on!!!
Well I started eating better at dinner...if it's food it should resolve in a day or so...I hope!
Let us know how it goes with the doc. Stack
